Opera house in Manaus
I vaguely remember a local telling me something about what made this particular opera hall special (amazing acoustics, its age and uniqueness in the hemisphere, or something along those lines), but at the moment the particulars escape me. Regardless, it was a stunning, unexpected site in a town seemingly unlikely to house such constructed beauty.
